Anne Hathaway Reveals What She Loves Most About Working With Australian Actors

Anne Hathaway has revealed the surprising quality she loves most about working with Australian actors, and according to the Hollywood star, it all comes down to their playful, laid back attitude on set.

The glamorous American actress, 43, made an appearance on Australia’s Channel Seven program Sunrise on Wednesday, where she opened up about her experiences working alongside some of the country’s biggest stars throughout her career.

When asked what she particularly enjoys about collaborating with Australians, the “Devil Wears Prada” actress did not hesitate to praise their easygoing energy and sense of humor.

“I think playfulness,” Hathaway said. “I think Aussies are very private about taking it seriously… I think it is very, just, ‘have a great time,’ the vibe is that nobody takes themselves seriously.”

Over the years, Hathaway has shared the screen with several beloved Australian performers, including Hugh Jackman in the Oscar winning musical adaptation Les Misérables and Rebel Wilson in the comedy caper The Hustle.

Despite describing Australian actors as effortlessly relaxed, Hathaway emphasized that their casual demeanor should not be mistaken for a lack of professionalism.

“Secretly, everyone is taking the work seriously,” she added, acknowledging that while Australian actors may appear carefree, they remain deeply committed to their craft behind the scenes.

Hathaway’s latest Australian co star is veteran actor Patrick Brammall, who appears opposite her in The Devil Wears Prada 2 as her on screen love interest.

The sequel has already generated significant buzz, though not all planned moments made it into the final cut. Earlier this month, Brammall revealed that a cameo from Sydney Sweeney was ultimately removed from the finished film.

Speaking on the “No Filter” podcast, Brammall explained that Sweeney’s role was cut for creative and structural reasons as the filmmakers refined the story.

“When putting a film together, things have got to go… and so Sydney Sweeney went!” he said, adding that he never met the actress because her scene reportedly appeared in the movie’s opening sequence.

According to Brammall, several scenes were removed during editing to improve the pacing and overall narrative flow of the film, including some of his own.

Reports previously suggested Sweeney had filmed a brief three minute appearance in which her character was being styled by Emily Blunt’s character. The deleted scene reportedly involved Hathaway’s Andy Sachs reuniting with iconic Runway colleagues Miranda Priestly and Nigel Kipling to save the struggling fashion magazine amid scandal.

In the sequence, Emily was said to be working at Dior when the group sought her help, only to find her styling Sweeney’s character. However, the moment was eventually scrapped because it reportedly “did not work structurally” within the final film.

Fans first learned about Sweeney’s rumored involvement after she was spotted arriving on set in New York City last August. She also notably did not attend the film’s premiere, fueling speculation that her role may have been removed.

As “The Devil Wears Prada 2” continues to dominate headlines, Hathaway’s admiration for her Australian co stars offers another glimpse into the dynamic behind one of Hollywood’s most anticipated productions.
