The Theatre of Dreams will host Gary O’Neil’s Wolverhampton Wanderers baptism on Monday night, when Manchester United hosts their Midlands opponents in Premier League gameweek one.
While the Red Devils prepare for a second season under Erik ten Hag’s careful eye, their guests are in turmoil following the expected – albeit untimely – resignation of Julen Lopetegui.
Manchester United have taken a chance on Danish prospect Rasmus Hojlund, but the former Atalanta BC striker will have to wait a little longer due to a back injury.
Hojlund is joined in the infirmary by Kobbie Mainoo (ankle), Dean Henderson (thigh), Anthony Martial (thigh), Tyrell Malacia (muscle), Thomas Heaton (calf), and Amad Diallo (knee), thus the resurrected Marcus Rashford should lead the hosts’ assault.
Rashford’s 20 home goals across all tournaments in the 2022-23 season were second only to the record-breaking Erling Braut Haaland (35) among all Premier League players, but although Hojlund will sit out, Andre Onana and Mason Mount should make their competitive debuts.
Wolves, on the other hand, begin the first gameweek of the season with a nearly clean bill of health, but Matheus Cunha remains a small question owing to a minor injury that caused him to miss a couple of days of training last week.
O’Neil, on the other hand, believes the Brazilian forward will be fine to play at Old Trafford, and he will surely spearhead the assault if fit enough following the exits of misfiring duo Diego Costa and Raul Jimenez.
Although the departures of Nathan Collins, Ruben Neves, Adama Traore, Joao Moutinho, and Conor Coady have created a few gaps in the Wolves squad, Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva are hoping to make an early impression on O’Neil.
When and where will Manchester United play Wolves?
On Saturday, August 14, United will entertain Wolves at the Old Trafford stadium in Manchester city. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. UTC (3:00 p.m. ET, 12:30 a.m. IST, 8:00 p.m BST, 5:00 a.m ACT).
