Los Blancos are in need of a new number one after Thibaut Courtois suffered an ACL injury, and Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly not keen on number two Andriy Lunin.
Following Thibaut Courtois’ season-ending ACL injury earlier this week, Real Madrid have been looking for a replacement first-choice goalkeeper.
Several names have been mentioned, the most famous of whom being David De Gea and Yassine Bounou. The latter was the Real Madrid coaching staff’s favorite, but it now looks that neither will be joining.
Instead, Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga is close to signing on a season-long loan. Chelsea have already stocked up on goalkeepers this summer, signing Robert Sanchez from Brighton for £25 million.
Following the signing of fellow Spaniard Robert Sanchez, the 28-year-old is no longer the Premier League club’s number one, and he might potentially transfer to Real Madrid.
Kepa had been in discussions to join Bayern Munich, but a move to Real Madrid appears to be on the horizon. A one-year loan deal makes sense given that Courtois will maintain his starting role upon his return from injury, but whether the former Athletic Club goalie is the best option remains to be seen.
